Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow...

My Thoughts
At first, I really wanted to read Matched. Everyone was talking about it and so it had me wondering how it was going to be. It was then I read a review on it which completely put me off. Seeing I received a review copy, I had to read it one day or another... and do you no what? I am so GLAD I picked up this book.

Matched is a book filled with individuality. With its mesmerizing cover, luring blurb and words filled with such simplicity, I truly got engaged into Matched. It was nothing I like I ever had read.

The first few chapters were a bit confusing. Seeing as though it was hard to understand what The Society really was without an explanation. Though as the story goes on I gained understanding of what it is all about.

I love all the names that Ally used in this book, Xander, Ky and Cassie. Cassie is a very explicit character. The main thing I really liked about her was the loving relationship between herself and her brother. She’s very caring but quite dull.

I always looked forward to the parts with Ky and Cassia. Ky is just great. Xander also. I love Xander's personality and everything about it him.

The last few chapters simply have the WOW effect. I craved to know what was going to and how the book will come to an end... and when I did I discovered that there’s another book after it. Great. The suspense is killing me. Crossed is to be released all the way in November 2011. What a bummer!

  3. I loved the language in this one! Even though its pacing is leisurely, the suspense and fear of discovery were enough to keep me reading. I think Crossed is going to be awesome, and that it might also fix some people's complaints of a lack of action, since it seems like big stuff is about to start happening at the end. Great review!

  4. Ditto what Jenny said, really. MATCHED had a few weaknesses and a lot of strengths, and we're dying to know about the Outer Provinces!

  5. I loved this book!!! I agree that the beginning was confusing, but as the novel progressed, we really began to see how the Society works. I'm so excited for Crossed and seeing what happens! :)

  6. I love the names too and I love how you described Cassia's character. I liked not knowing everything about the society right away. The mystery was killing me but it made me faster that way :) Thanks for the review.

  8. I'm currently reading this book (after months of pining for it) and I was also wondering if I'm the only one who found the first few chapters dull. I'm at the part where she reads the poem "Do not go gentle into that good night" and reading that poem after so long, especially in the context of this book, was a total "wow" moment for me. So, I'm hoping that I enjoy the rest of it:)

  9. Excellent review! I picked up Match a while ago, but I had the same feelings you did. I think this is a common problem with most dystopian fiction - the worlds, the way the rules work in these societies, are often unexplained, and I know too much explanation is not a good thing, but too less is just confusing. I did have that sense of gradual improvement though.

Good observation on the cool names of the characters. But yeah, Cassie is quite dull. I'm not sure if she's dull by her society's standards though. I found her dullness to be... what they expected of her. (Does that make any sense?)

I love Ky, Cassie, and Xander's dynamic. I'm getting a little sick of love triangles, but I think this is a book in which it is legitimate and it actually works well.

    So excited for Crossed!

  10. Matched was first book I've read in English so maybe that is part of the fact why I like this book so much. Even if some people didn't like it, everybody must admit that the cover is really, really awesome. I can't wait to read Crossed. :)

  11. Matched has been sitting on my shelf for a while now. When I read the summary for it, I just had to have it. Now I continue to put it off. I think I will read it after I finish the one I'm on now.

  14. This book was good. There was a little something missing to make it awesome but I think that with the sequel coming out, it would just get better. It doesn't change the fact that I want to read it!

  15. I saw this book in my last visit to the library, but didn't have money. I have read so many good reviews, that as soon as I get money i'll buy it.

  16. The description of this book reminds me of The Island {minus people being grown and harvested for body parts} meets Delirium {but they're encouraged to love the partner they choose} meets Whither {I'm not exactly sure why this one, but it always pops in my head when I think of it}. I have it on my shelf at home waiting to be read, and I think I'll pick it up when I'm done with the one I'm on!
