When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end

My Thoughts
*SPOILERS!*
Within the first few pages I was already engrossed in Clary's world. The main reason had to be because there was intense action right in the first few pages. Of course, this then kept me engaged in events that followed.

Clary, the protagonist is awesome. Seriously, I love her. And her hair? Clare's amazing description made me want her like that. So beautiful and rich... how cool!

Very unpredictable. I didn't know who Clary was going to be with. I found it quite frustrating seeing as many of the times I can tell from the moment any guys are introduced. I even looked at the last few pages and I was so convinced it was Alec. How wrong was I. Jace.

I love Jace. He is so hero material and one of my favourite YA favourite hotties!! I love his witty, funny and sexy character. Jace and Clary fought so much that you wouldn't even think they'll ever be together. The first kiss was perfection!!! How cute! :)

The fact that Jace and Clary were supposedly 'siblings' made me NEED the next book1 Like OMG! They kissed as well :O
Action, suspense, and romance well everything was found in this book. So full of energy and awesomeness... this is a must read! I so can't wait to read City of Ashes!!!!!

  5. Gosh, I could go on about these books for hours. I agree with you: Clary is an awesome protagonist. And I'm head over heels for Jace. The story line between the two drove me nuts! I couldn't read the books fast enough.

Random statement: Magnus Bane is one of my favorite characters ^_^ So much glitter!

  13. Very interesting review. I'm glad you said *Spoilers* because yah, you def have some! Lol.
I read this book after I read an ARC of Clare's Clockwork Angel, and let me tell you that I wasn't that impressed. I did enjoy it to an extent, but it was so much like Clockwork Angel that it was strange. But it did have something to it, so I stuck it out and read the rest of the series! And yah, Jace is pretty awesome, and he only get's better ;)

  16. Jace and Clary are awesome together, but I agree. I freaked out when I got to the end. Luckily, COA was already out so I just jumped into it. I think I also had to wikipedia it just to make sure they weren't actually siblings. I wouldn't have handled that well. Love me some Luke. He's a good father figure.
